DRC: Saving lives with vaccinations

Diseases like measles and pneumonia are some of the biggest killers of children under five. Right now, there is a global increase in measles outbreaks; in 2018 alone, 140,000 people died. In the DRC, the number of cases this year is more than triple the number recorded in 2018.

With investment from the Eleva Foundation, Unicef aims to reach at least 100,000 children who are facing the world’s largest measles outbreak with life-saving support.

The Global Goals are a universal call for action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity. Children, the next generation, must be at the heart of global efforts if we are to achieve these Goals by the year 2030. Unicef’s work is central to 11 of the 17 Goals, which include aiming for zero hunger, quality education for every child, and clean water and sanitation.
