Zimbabwe: Solar-powered piped water systems
Despite significant investment by the Government of Zimbabwe, access to clean water and appropriate sanitation has been declining. Access to clean water is a basic need and right. A lack of access can lead to preventable diseases such as cholera and diarrhoea.
The Eleva Foundation is contributing to the holistic transformation of children’s lives by supporting Unicef’s solar energy work in rural Zimbabwe. Access to clean water will not only improve their health, but also indirectly affect their nutrition status, their ability to learn and address protection issues related to fetching water. In partnership with the Government of Zimbabwe, Unicef will reach 25,000 people over three years with safe and clean water. Together, Unicef and the Eleva Foundation will rehabilitate 18 solar powered piped water systems in five rural districts, promoting community ownership and enabling children to become agents of change.
