Lesotho: Educating shepherd boys
Shepherd boys are some of the most vulnerable children in Lesotho. Children who begin herding at a young age are often unable to access the formal education system, and so risk missing out on basic numeracy and literacy skills, as well as essential life skills.
With the support of the Eleva Foundation, Unicef aims to reach 17,000 children, including 12,000 shepherd boys with non-formal education over three years. The Eleva Foundation is acting as a powerful catalyst for transforming the lives of the most vulnerable children in Lesotho.
The Global Goals are a universal call for action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity. Children, the next generation, must be at the heart of global efforts if we are to achieve these Goals by the year 2030. Unicef’s work is central to 11 of the 17 Goals, which include aiming for zero hunger, quality education for every child, and clean water and sanitation.
